BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. We use media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. We partner with civil society, local media and others to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues, and strengthen the media sector through capacity building. Our work is built on insights from our research and engagement with communities, and is focused on three key themes: governance and human rights, health and resilience.
BBC Media Action in Bangladesh uses media and communications to improve family health, enable people to hold their leaders to account, and to help people improve their economic security and preparedness for disaster. We are producing an exciting television community challenge programme to support Bangladeshis to adapt to changes in climate, and supporting local radio stations to produce programmes that hold local leaders to account. Our high profile, quality television drama, public service announcements and radio programmes are helping to improve sexual, maternal and child health. Our projects also work with the government, NGOs and media organisations to develop outreach activities and social media content to build on and sustain the life of our broadcast output.
Overall purpose:
To design and deliver effective and imaginative training activities, assisting BBC Media Action’s NGO and government partners to improve their use of rich media and communication techniques in the areas of disaster preparedness and resilience.
Main Duties & responsibilities:
Understand BBC Media Action’s approach to resilience and become familiar with project designs and media outputs produced within the resilience theme.
Work with partners to identify organisational strengths and weaknesses and agree training needs
Design training strategies and write training materials (including syllabuses, course structures, session plans and handout/toolkit materials)
Deliver effective and engaging training for participants from partner organisations, including travel across the whole of Bangladesh as required.
Providing mentoring and follow-up support to partner organisations, both remotely and in person.
Provide timely and accurate monitoring and reporting information for training activities.
Work with the research and project team to assess the effectiveness of training delivered by the project and evaluate its impact.
Provide expert input into the design of in-house training programmes for BBC Media Action staff and assist in delivery of these training programmes.
Stay informed about developments and good practice in disaster preparedness in Bangladesh, researching and recommending organisations for new partnerships and providing support to secure them.
Work closely with teams across BBC Media Action Bangladesh to ensure that communication with partners is planned, co-ordinated and effective.
Based in Dhaka but with travel to training locations across the country as necessary. In general, normal office hours will apply but the nature of the role means that a flexible approach to working time will be necessary. http://jobsonlinebd24.blogspot.com/
